Recreation Department Thunder and Lightening Policy
Recreation Department Thunder and Lightening Policy
For the safety of our outside recreation program participants the Hampden Recreation Department follows the Maine Principals' Association (MPA) policy for Thunder and Lightening during athletic practices and games.
MPA policy states that if Thunder is heard or Lighting is seen, play is stopped immediately, the field is cleared and participants must seek shelter (building or vehicle) and play cannot resume until 30 minutes after the last heard or seen strike. Each time a new event is heard or seen the 30 minute clock resets.
